A Visit from Santa & Lots of Talking
We took Kyler to sit on Santa's lap for a picture over Thanksgiving weekend. He came to downtown Seneca on Friday night as he always does. Ky seemed to be excited to see him and kept trying to walk over to him but when I set Kyler on Santa's lap, he was not too happy...

Book Worm
Kyler has always been into his books...
But he has turned into a total book worm lately. He will spend hours entertaining himself by looking at his books. He "reads" in gibberish and loves to have books read to him. It is really nice for me because I can get a lot done when he is home with me. But if he keeps this up we are going to have to take some trips to the library because his same books are going to get old fast!
No complaints from me - I highly encourage my little reader to keep on reading!

18 Months
Kyler is now 18 months old. We will have to wait a few weeks for his stats since his silly mommy can't remember to schedule an appointment in advance. Here is my long post so I can always look back and hopefully remember what Ky was like at this age.
The little man is a hoot. He has about a zillion facial expressions and is cracking me up several times per day. He's not talking much but says quite a few words (listed below) and seems to have his own language too. When he is reading books, he says "gong gong gong gong..." And started saying that all the time. It sounds like he's speaking a foreign language. He gives high fives and knuckles and thinks he's a pretty big boy doing that.
The other night he popped his head out the door when Papa got home and was yelling gibberish at him. My goodness does he ever love his Papa. Last night Daddy was talking to Papa and Kyler had had enough of that and started yelling something to interrupt the conversation. Whenever Papa comes home, Kyler says "kuck" and runs to the door to make sure his truck made it home too.
Kyler is wearing mostly 18 months clothing and size 4 disposable diapers. We have stopped using cloth temporarily until we get moved into our house. Then I will decide - right now it is pretty stinky so I'm liking the disposables. Kyler needs a hair cut. The front is getting a little uneven and the back is a fuzz ball of curls. He is starting to look like his dad did when he was a preschooler, especially with his blond hair. Kyler has decided that he doesn't really want to take a bath, but usually has fun once I drag him in.
He is very interested in learning how to use the computer, phone, remote, and anything else electronic. He finally will talk on the phone sometimes. He will scribble on paper for a little bit. He likes to get the broom out and sweep and is always putting our shoes away. I wish he would keep that habit into his adult years. Kyler will sit and read books for hours and loves to be read to. He has been putting himself to sleep at nap time by reading a book in bed. He gets really into his tractor show on Netflix (Mighty Machines - On the Farm) and is glued to it as soon as it comes on. His favorite toys are books and semi trucks. He will play with anything that has wheels though and is pretty uninterested in anything else.
Kyler can walk backwards, do side steps, and last night started walking around in a circle until he got dizzy. His face was hilarious when he stopped and realized he was dizzy. His eyes got really big like he was surprised at what was happening. Kyler thinks he can hop/jump but is just bending his knees. It is pretty funny. Sometimes he forgets what he's doing and just starts dancing. He finally learned to throw and has been throwing toys some. He loves to climb, especially on people if we are lying down. And on Frazier too - he really wants a ride from that dog. He gets pretty rough with his momma sometimes when he is wrestling around and climbing. He knows some of his facial features but isn't consistent on which is which just yet. If you ask where his tummy his, sometimes he will pull up his shirt and pat his big tummy. He has started to run and it is hilarious. His little feet go so fast when you tell him "hurry!"
Ky is a burst of energy all the time. I see other kids his age out and about and they are so calm and sit on or stay right next to their mommies. But not Kyler - he has to be running around anywhere we go. Waiting for our food when we are out to eat is the worst. He's pretty disruptive in church if we aren't in the cry room too. Sometimes he will hear people around us singing or saying the responses and it makes him think it is time for him to talk too (but usually after it is over and time for the priest/pastor to talk again).
He likes to hug on his Momma and sometimes other people but generally doesn't like giving or getting hugs and kisses. He does a good job blowing kisses and waving goodbye. His wave is pretty funny. He sort of moves his hand back and forth out to the side as if he were cleaning a glass window with a paper towel. When we read his "Goodnight Cowboy" book at night, he gives the cowboy kisses just the way I do when I put him to sleep. I kiss my hand and then touch it to him. It's so cute how he mimics and picks up on things. He also pats the top of my head when we say goodnight to the cowboy hat. And he has started to notice that Daddy doesn't have hair but he and Mommy do.
When he eats, we constantly have to tell Kyler to keep his feet off the table. He loves meat and eats fruit pretty well but has decided he does not like bread or potatoes (I know, crazy!). I give him a gummy vitamin in the morning and a small piece of candy the rest of the day when I need him to lie still for a diaper change. Now he pats the floor where he wants me to set the candy bag so he can pick his poison or will just lie down for a diaper change.

After Halloween, we had the pumpkins out for a couple more days. Kyler found one of his spoons and took it over to scoop them out again.

Trick or Treat
We learned this Halloween that Kyler is more of a giver than a taker. He didn't mind trick-or-treating but he definitely preferred helping Grandma hand out treats. He hung out on the porch with the pumpkins and ghost and even sat down for a bit. When the kids would leave he would stand at the door and talk and talk to them in his gurgling gibberish. Finally I would tell him to shut the door so more kids could come and he would. His talking was hilarious!
He did pretty well for his first time trick-or-treating. He dressed up in his lion costume and got his treat bag and would walk right up to the doors and attempt to knock. When the candy came, he got pretty excited and tried to take as much as he could. He would then want us to open it right then and there. Sometimes we would hold his treat bag until we got to a door but as soon as we gave it to him he would sit down and pick something out of it. It was a confusing night for our little lion! After we hit about 10 houses, he was done. He looked like he would fall asleep in the car and just stared off while we were visiting with people.
When we got back home and dumped out his candy, he was pretty happy with himself and picked out quite a few to eat. He had plenty of sugar and was bouncing around pretty good until he finally crashed and went to bed. It was a fun night and we enjoyed Ky's first "real" Halloween (last year he was too small to really do anything - we didn't even dress him up until a couple days after, and just for a picture). Next year should be even more fun when he actually understands that he doesn't need to eat each piece of candy as it is given to him.

Pumpkin Carving
This Halloween Eve, we carved Kyler's pumpkin.
Ky's lion face was on because we went and got his picture taken earlier. He didn't know what to think of that slimy stuff in the pumpkin!
Grandma got a spoon and Ky scooped and scooped the seeds out. Then they would go flying everywhere. It was very entertaining.
You can't tell because of the flash, but this picture is in the dark when we lit up the pumpkin to see its face. Aren't these expressions priceless?
Kyler thought it was so much fun to have the lights off.
And he likes to take off the lid and look inside occasionally.
Of course, he has to put the lid back on. Everything has to be in its place for this little guy.

Halloween Preview!
I had to give up on my idea of a handmade costume. It is just too busy this year with the new house. So we went to the store and decided on a lion costume.
I'm sure he will love to trick-or-treat because he loves candy. It is his treat to get him to lie still for diaper changes. I know, terrible parenting! Is it any consolation that the first "canny" of the day is a gummy vitamin?
Last night the little lion made his debut at the kiddie carnival at the high school. He was pretty young/uninterested for the most part but he had no problem climbing the ladder and peeking through the hole at Dad.

Catch-Up & Pumpkin Farm
Here's a little bit of what we've been up to lately.
First up, tailgating at the K-State vs. Baylor game. He has his backpack and ball cap and is ready to go.
This pic shows how curly his hair can get.
And here he is signing "more."
His favorite thing to watch is his tractor video on Netflix. Don't mess with him when this is on.
And he loves playing with Uncle Brent's old race car that comes apart and goes back together with some tools.
Ky has been a bit of a Mama's boy lately. When he gives me this look, it is hard to not want him at my feet!
The other night he had all his cars lined up on Papa's lap.
And today we went to the pumpkin farm!
It was a beautiful day.
And Ky-man had lots of fun.
He rode on a John Deere tractor trike.
And helped us navigate the corn maze. He kept getting sidetracked by some ears of corn that had been pulled by other visitors.
He fed the goats and saw turkeys, pigs, ponies, and sheep.
We checked out the pumpkins.
And went on a tractor wagon ride.
Daddy thought maybe the tractor wagon was enough...
but Ky insisted on the $1 bucket train ride behind the riding mower.
He was the littlest one on the ride.
He slipped down on one of the bumps and couldn't get out, but once I got him straightened out he did great.
His favorite thing was the slide. I was a little nervous since the big kids were flying down it but Ky thought it was awesome and would laugh and laugh and go right back to the top.
It was a fun day with our big guy.

17 Months
Kyler will be 17 months old this week. He is getting to be a big guy. I took him to the doctor today and he weighed in at 27 pounds. I've been slacking at taking pictures and video lately and I'll try to get on it.

A Day at the Zoo
We got up early this morning and Ky had his hotel breakfast. As we were getting ready and driving, I kept telling Kyler we were going to go to the zoo and see the monkeys. Every time I would say the word "monkeys," Kyler would say "ah ah ah" just like the monkeys say. He was excited.
Then we dropped Daddy off at "school" this morning (a training for an IT certification) and headed to the zoo. We were one of the first ones there. In fact, we were a little early and stopped in the gift shop first. I showed him the stuffed animal monkeys and he looked at me like "Seriously? These are the monkeys you got me all excited about?" So we went walking through the zoo in search for the monkeys ("ah ah ah"). The antelopes were pretty close to the walkway and Kyler was pretty interested. He stood up in the stroller and told them something.
We finally spotted some monkeys but they were a little underwhelming to Ky since they didn't make a noise like he thought they would. But under the bridge were a bunch of koi fish. We bought some food pellets and Kyler thought it was so much fun to throw them in the water and watch the fish swarm. But we had to keep moving because he could hear some noisy monkeys. To get to them, we had to walk through the gorilla exhibit.
Unfortunately, by the time we got to the noisy monkeys they had stopped being noisy at all. So poor Ky didn't get to see any monkeys say "ooo ooo ooo ah ah ah." Dang! But he did get to play on the gorilla statues on our way back down to the cat complex.
On the way out, we stopped back at the gift shop so Ky could pick out a stuffed animal. I gave him four choices based on what he seemed to be most interested in at the zoo - penguin, male lion, monkey, and giraffe. He chose the giraffe over and over again. When we got back to the hotel, he pretended to feed his giraffe Fruit Loops. And he was all cuddled up with it after he fell asleep. What a sweetie!

The cats were one of Ky's favorites. We got to see a male lion very close up which was pretty amazing. I don't remember ever being that close to one that was awake and walking around. Here he is lying down while one of the females is up.
We also saw lots of tigers. This one was yawning and sort of growling when we went by. Some other kids were making similar noises, trying to get him to do it again. Ky joined right in and growled at that tiger. It was pretty cute.
We had to go to the petting zoo. Ky tried feeding this hay to some of the goats and gave one a couple pats on the back before trying to grab its tail.
He was more interested in the chickens. Too bad most of them were in a pen. I kept thinking one of them would peck his little fingers but they were more interested in the feed.
We went into the barn to see what else was going on. There was a very noisy rooster in there. Kyler loved it and kept trying to say "cock-a-doodle-doo." It came out closer to "cockle-cooooo." Oh, and of course he tried to pick up some goat poop pellets while we were in there. Gross!
One of the best exhibits at Omaha's zoo is the penguins and aquarium. A couple of the penguins were pretty friendly and would come right up to the glass where Kyler's finger was. We talked about how they waddle and did it with our fingers "waddle waddle waddle." Ky would say "wawa wawa wawa." He also noticed how they would shake their heads and did a pretty good imitation of that. Maybe I should be re-thinking his Halloween costume!
One of my favorite animals is the giraffe. This was our first stop but I wanted to go back one more time. I could tell that was a good call by the amount of interest Ky had in the statue in front of the giraffe hut. He gave it a couple good pats.
Kyler didn't know what to think about the giraffes walking toward him when he was standing alone. He would keep backing up until he reached me but couldn't take his eyes off them. So funny!
We walked through the butterfly pavilion and got all hot and sweaty. One butterfly landed on a lady's ear and hung out there for a while. On the way out they had some honey bees on display. Ky liked saying "bzzzz" while we watched them. We took one last look at the penguins and then hit the jungle before we took off. Ky's favorite was definitely this bridge we crossed. I was impressed by how well he did - better than some of the bigger kids.
